Pattern Difficulty Rating
Patterns are marked with a difficulty rating of 1-5, with 1 being easy and 5 being difficult. Lace patterns are inherently more difficult because mistakes are trickier to correct. For this reason, lace patterns have a difficulty rating of at least 3.
Yarns for Summer Knitting
Breathable, lightweight fibers like cotton, linen, and bamboo are excellent choices for summer knitting. Wool is also lovely, but consider a wool yarn that’s blended with cotton, linen or bamboo.
Cotton is renowned for its softness and durability, making it perfect for everything from beach bags to summer tops. Linen, on the other hand, has a unique crispness and sheen, and its breathability makes it ideal for hot weather.
Finally, bamboo yarn is known for its silkiness and drape, which works beautifully in summer shawls or wraps. Hemp is also an interesting yarn choice, but do a “feel test” to ensure it’s not too scratchy against the skin.
I’ve written a more in-depth post about yarns for summer knitting. It gets into the wonderful world of yarn blends, how knitting gauge affects breathability and other tips for warm weather knitting!
A tip for Lace Knitting
If you plan to knit a lace project, consider inserting lifelines into your knitting. This will help if you’ve make a mistake and need to unravel your work. When it comes to lace, knit defensively! Your future-knitting-self will thank you!
