Sheep & Stitch is more than just a site for knitting tutorials, patterns and inspiration. It’s based on a larger philosophy that everyone is a creator.
On the surface, Sheep & Stitch is a website for knitting tutorials, patterns and inspiration. (If you’re new to the site, start here!). But the engine that drives it, its raison d’être if you will, is based on the larger philosophy that everyone is a creator – including you!
You are a Creator
You know that feeling you get when you’ve made something awesome? It could be an excellent cup of coffee, a beautiful collage or a funny observation that makes everyone bust out laughing.
That’s a great feeling.
Know why?
Because you brought that delicious, beautiful, hilarious thing into existence. What was once not there, is there. Because you put it there. You made it! And now everyone is enjoying your creation. Isn’t that incredible?
That’s the driving force behind Sheep & Stitch: the idea that everyone is a creator who can bring beautiful delightful things into the world.
You are a creator.
Pretty cool, huh?
Knitting is Magic
So what are you going to make? Sheep & Stitch can’t teach you how to make a beautiful collage, or tell a funny joke even how to brew a great cup of coffee. What it can teach you is how to be a knitter.
Yes, a knitter!
A person who wields sticks and string, and with their own two hands can conjure up a scarf, a hat, mittens, socks or even – gasp – a sweater!
Sometimes knitting can seem like pure magic. With just sticks and string, you can create an abundance of wooly goodness that will keep you warm your whole life!
Learn three simple techniques and you can knit a scarf. Add one extra technique and you’ve got a shawl. Throw in two more and you’re on your way to a hat. Once you’ve knit a hat, it’s just a matter of time before mittens, socks and sweaters are part of your repertoire. Such magic!
The Girl Behind Sheep & Stitch
Oh, hello! I’m Davina, the girl behind Sheep & Stitch. I run this operation here, which includes designing knitting patterns; filming and editing videos; writing blog posts and shooting photos.
I’ve been knitting since I was fourteen-years-old, and while my life has changed a lot since then, knitting has remained a constant. There’s almost always a knitting project on my needles that I’m itching to get to.
Before starting Sheep & Stitch, I worked in digital marketing. It was a great experience, and it taught me a lot about marketing, branding, and creating content that connects with a niche audience.
While working there, I started a very basic blog to catalogue my knitting projects. I didn’t know it then, but it was the origins of Sheep & Stitch.
Since then, Sheep & Stitch has grown from a bare bones blog to the website it is today. I’ve gone from Toronto to Hong Kong, from a 9-to-5 job to knitting full-time. I’ve designed patterns for dozens of yarn companies, and Sheep & Stitch has appeared in a handful of lifestyle websites and print magazines like Canadian Living and Knit Today.
While the goal of Sheep & Stitch will always be to teach with clarity and good humour and to inspire with beautiful designs, its future is like a fresh cast on – full of potential to turn into just about anything!
Thank you for visiting Sheep & Stitch and reading this far. If you’re new here, check out the Start Here page for tips on how to get the most out of the site. I hope you stay awhile and enjoy what we have to offer!
