Ah, the ever-feared Kitchener Stitch. You might have seen a knitter seaming with kitchener stitch and become stricken with fear at the sight of their wretched body hunched over their knitting, murmuring some mantra while they moved their tapestry needle in and out of their work. Some cursing may have ensued. Maybe they threw down their work in frustration or caved and finished their seam with the three-needle bind off.
It happens to the best of us! But the Kitchener Stitch doesn’t need to be hard or frustrating. In fact, once you get the hang of it, seaming with it becomes kind of meditative.
The mantra you should remember is this:
Front Needle: Knit Off, Purl On
Back Needle: Purl Off, Knit On
