Could you post a tutorial on a slip stitch please.
Davina says
Hey Suzan, That’s a good suggestion! It’s a handy little skill.
Maybe I can elucidate it for you here without a video: when a pattern asks you to slip one stitch or “Sl1” for short, it’s asking you to bring one stitch from your left needle to your right needle and… that’s it!
You don’t need to knit that stitch or purl that stitch or do anything at all to that stitch. You’re just inserting your right needle into the stitch on your left needle as if you were to knit it, but instead of knitting it, you just slip that stitch onto your right needle. That’s it!

When a pattern states to knit on the wrong side and then knit on the right side, what does this mean?
Thanks1
Davina says
It means that when you’re on the “right side” or the side that’s supposed to face the public, you will knit. And when you’re on the “wrong side” or the side that the public does not see, you will also knit. Of course, this depends on the stitch you’re knitting.

Hi Davina! I love your videos and website! This is day two of my new knitting hobby and your videos are by far the easiest to follow. What brand needles do you use? And do you sell them without having to buy a kit? They seem like they are perfect for beginners. Also, when will your beautiful yarn be back in stock?
Thank you for your time and for inspiring a brand new knitter like me!
Davina says
Hi Alison! The needles that I use in the videos vary. For the Cushy Cowl and the Big Hat, the materials list links to the materials, including the needles, that were used. Here are the project pages for the Big Hat: https://sheepandstitch.com/learn/how-to-knit-a-big-hat/and the Cushy Cowl: https://sheepandstitch.com/learn/how-to-knit-a-cushy-cowl-2/
In the shop, we do sell a 10mm bamboo needle that’s great for bulky weight yarns: https://sheepandstitch.com/shop/10mm-bamboo-knitting-needles/ Unfortunately, we don’t sell the 32″ circular needle on its own.
The yarn we had is unfortunately sold out, and we also won’t be re-stocking it. It’s by a Finnish brand called TJOCKT. I believe you can order the Martta the Merino yarn off of their website at tjockt.com. We’ll be launching a new line of yarn this summer, so do stay tuned for that!
Good luck on your knitting journey!

What brand of circular knitting needles are you using in your Cushy Cowl video? The ones i see in stores are plastic/bamboo and yours look really durable.
Thanks!
Davina says
Hey Lindsay, the needles are Knitterz Pride 12mm fixed circular needles. They can be purchased on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/1QHKQf2 The project page for the Cushy Cowl includes a list of the materials here: https://sheepandstitch.com/learn/how-to-knit-a-cushy-cowl-2/ Hope that helps!

Hello there,
This site is really helpful and I shall be spending a lot more time here 🙂 I’m a novice at knitting and while I thought starting out knitting squares would be good, the lady teaching me had thrown me in at the deep end with a baby jumper! Aaahhhh!
I’ve just started knitting the front of the jumper and I know I’ve made a mistake about 3 rows down. How do I pull those out but go not further down? I couldn’t find a video for that.
Thank-you 🙂
Davina says
What I would do is rip out the yarn until you reach the mistake, and then rip back to the beginning of that row, and then start picking up those loose stitches. Alternatively, you can rip back to the row where the mistake occurs, and then slowly rip back one stitch at a time. As each stitch is pulled loose, use your needle to pick it up. This ensures that all those loose are picked up on the needle. This is a good topic for a future video. Will add it to my list. Hope that helps!

Hi! Would love to see demos on how to increase a stitch, knit togethers, yarn overs, drop stitches….etc…would be a great video for an all in one.
Davina says
Great suggestion! I’m adding them to my growing list of video ideas!
