.Welcome to Sheep & Stitch, a website for folks who want to learn how to knit! Whether you’re just starting out or in the middle of your knitting journey, you’ll find beautiful patterns with tutorial videos to get you going!
It Starts with This One Idea
It’s that everyone is a creator.
You know that feeling you get when you’ve made something awesome? It could be a delicious cup of coffee or a poem you’ve written or a joke you thought of that makes everyone who hears it shake with laughter.
That’s a great feeling.
Because you brought that beautiful, delicious, hilarious thing into existence. What was once not there, is there. Because you put it there. You made it! And you, and those around you, are now enjoying it. Isn’t that incredible?
That’s the driving force behind Sheep & Stitch – the idea that everyone is, at heart, a creator, who can make satisfying, hilarious, delightful things.
You = creator
Pretty cool, huh?
The Magic of Knitting
So, what are you going to make? Sheep & Stitch can’t teach you how to write a poem or how to be the next Louis C.K. or even how to brew a great cup of coffee. But it can show you how to be a knitter.
Yes, a knitter! A person who wields sticks and string and, with only a pair of hands, conjures up a scarf – ta-da! – or a warm hat – how can it be? – or – presto chango! – a sweater.
Because, you see, sometimes knitting can seem like pure magic. With so little, you can create so much. Learn four simple techniques and you can knit a scarf. Add one extra technique and you can make a shawl. Throw in two more and you’re on your way to a hat. Once you can knit a hat, it’s only a matter of time before mittens, socks and sweaters make their way into your repertoire – and then you’re off to the races!
Learn With Maximum Joy and Minimum Tears
So, how do you become this magical yarn charmer, this maker of sweaters and hats?
You could read instructions. But if you’ve ever experienced the agony of hunching over tiny diagrams or tried to follow seemingly contradictory steps until you’re red in the face, you’ll know that instructions aren’t always the best solution. In fact, they can be downright confusing.
That’s where Sheep & Stitch comes in. Think of it as a helpful guide who’ll hold your hand through the whole knitting journey – from learning how to knit to completing your first pattern and onto more challenging knits until you reach the ultimate project: a sweater. Yep, a real sweater with sleeves and everything!

The Gal Behind Sheep & Stitch
Oh, hello! My name is Davina. I’m the creator of Sheep & Stitch. That’s a fancy way of saying that I run things around here – from the design to the copy and blog, pattern design and video production. Yep, I captain this wee ship!
I started Sheep & Stitch because since I was 14, I’ve loved everything about knitting – the act of it, the design of it, the raw materials that make it up, the community that rallies around it. Everything! I can’t say that about most things – that I love “everything” about it.
I can’t even say it about dogs, an animal that I’m crazy about. I mean, I don’t love picking up after them or even the mild discipline I have to administer to my Jack Russell (which amounts to me shouting, “Buster! Drop that sandwich! Tut! Tut!”). See, it’s not all fun and games.
But, knitting I love.
If you’ve ever been in love, you’ll know that it makes you grin like an idiot. Nothing fazes you. You want to sing in public and tell everyone you meet about that special someone.
Sheep & Stitch is my way of singing in public about the wonders of knitting. Like knitting, it’s a labor of love. Through Sheep & Stitch, I hope you’ll experience the joy and satisfaction of making something warm and wooly with your own hands.
I hope you’ll look down at your knitting one day and think, I can’t believe I made that! and swell with satisfaction. I hope you’ll wear all your knitted garments with pride and tell anyone who asks, “Yes, I knit this myself” and when asked how, say “Let me show you.”
All it takes is two sticks, some string, and your own hands. So, if you’re ready to dive into the wonderful world of knitting, let’s do it together!
